From beyond the veils of ancient times, Clan Arthur has been a powerful influence in shaping Britain and the world we know today. The last Chief, Patrick MacArthur, died in Jamaica in 1771, from that day the Chiefship of Clan Arthur has lain vacant and the history of Arthur's Children has been lost.

In 1991, Robert McArthur, in Scotland, organised a derbfine (a meeting of the arms bearing members of the clan) and a number of suitably qualified clansmen made their way home to Argyll to hold council. At the derbfine's request James Edward Moir MacArthur of the Ancient and Noble House of Milton, was proposed to the Lord Lyon King of Arms as the new leader of Clan Arthur. In 1992 the derbfine's petition was upheld, and James MacArthur was appointed Commander of Clan Arthur with a primary task of tracing Clan Arthur's true chief.

After eleven years further genealogical research, James Edward Moir MacArthur of the Ancient and Noble House of Milton, and now Tirivadich, lodged a petition with the Lord Lyon. The Lord Lyon again upheld this petition and on 28 August 2002, James Edward Moir MacArthur was appointed the first Chief of Clan Arthur after an absence of 231 years.

On 13 April 2003, near a hundred MacArthur kin from across the globe met in Edinburgh, and James Edward Moir MacArthur of that Ilk was readily accepted and duly inaugurated Chief of Clan Arthur. This warm and friendly historic occasion, punctuated frequently by the Chief's lightning wit, was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended - Truly a momentous day in Clan Arthur's future.
